Why P.E.D.A.L.O?
P.E.D.A.L.O stands for Program E-Decision Making for Neonatal Conditions.
A pedalo or paddle boat is a small human-powered watercraft that a person drives by pedalling, which turns a paddle wheel. The paddle wheel of a pedalo is a smaller version of that of the paddle steamer. A two-seat pedalo has two sets of pedals, side by side, designed to be used together. Pedalos are suited to calm waters, such as in ponds and small lakes and can often be found rented for use on ponds in urban parks.
The program developers view the eLearning platform as a vehicle for nurses in the development of clinical reasoning and critical decision making skills, as individuals work through the modules they are pedalling (reasoning) and turning (deciding) through and towards courses of action. The program acts as an assistant to help them navigate (pedal) their way through the clinical scenario.
Program Aim:
To create an eLearning platform that supports the development
of clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills for Neonatal
Intensive Care Nurses to recognize and respond to evolving
patient scenarios in the neonatal clinical setting.
Program Objectives:
It is anticipated at the completion of the program participants will:
